Fools run fast, the clever wait,
the wise choose gardens over fate.

Welcome to the Orb Garden – our oasis of calm and relaxation.
Located right next to our winery, this garden spans more than 200 years of history. Its care and stewardship lie in the hands of Claudia Orb, whose dedication keeps this special place alive.

We are absolutely delighted that our garden received the Best of Wine Tourism Award 2025 in the category “Architecture, Parks & Gardens.”
The Best of Wine Tourism Award has been presented since 1999 and aims to raise awareness of wine tourism while promoting the sustainable development of wine regions.

La vie en rosé

The Rose Garden is the perfect starting point for your visit.
With more than 80 different varieties — including historic roses from the original planting — the rosarium is the very heart of the garden and Claudia Orb’s favorite place. Surrounded by dry-stone walls that create a unique microclimate, the roses unfold here in all their beauty.

A green oasis in the heart of Rheinhessen

“I was inspired above all by the ideas of garden designers Franz Sales Meyer, Friedrich Ries, Gertrude Jekyll and Penelope Hobhouse,” says Claudia Orb.
“Through experimentation, learning by doing and countless transplantings — which certainly did not please every plant — I gradually came closer to my goal: creating the perfect landscape garden.”
Alongside impressive old trees, the garden is home to copper serviceberry, witch hazel and hops — plants that lend the garden its very own distinctive charm.

Following in Hildegard's footsteps

From the original garden layout emerged the idea of creating an educational herb garden inspired by Hildegard of Bingen and Walahfrid Strabo — filled with medicinal and culinary herbs that not only smell wonderful, but are truly useful as well.

Designed in the style of a medieval monastery and farmhouse garden, it is based on an authentic 9th-century garden described by Abbot Walahfrid Strabo in his famous poem Hortulus.

Many of the plants have a long history and were brought to our region centuries ago by monks from the Mediterranean — a piece of living history to touch, explore, and marvel at.
